Hailing from the U.K. is a band that doesn't need any introduction. Heavy as fuck hardcore outfit Your Demise are set to release a new record that's surely gonna be a contender for heavy album of the year. The Brighton, U.K. based 5 piece has been known for solid albums, and an even more solid performances to back it up. 2009's "Ignorance Never Dies" got praised as one of the best hardcore albums of the year. And with 2010 brings Your Demise bigger tours, a new vocalist, and a new album. Did "The Kids We Used To Be" live up to the hype? We here at Pure Musical Fun sure think so.
The album clocking in at a solid 38 minutes is filled with 2 steps, breakdowns, and mosh parts that are sure to keep all the hardcore dancers happy. And how about new vocalist Ed McRae, what does he bring to the plate? For one a heavier rawer vocal style that truly makes the album. He also has some clean vocals that are just a lovely added touch that is sure to throw you off. From the heavy gang calling intro of "MMX" to the chorus filled "Life Of Luxury", and my personal favorite "The Kids We Used To Be" this is sure to be hardcore album of the year. Its got enough familiarity of the bands previous works with enough new changes to keep you all interested. The album lasts with you, and you'll want to play it over and over again. "The Kids We Used To Be" is no sophomore slump in any way. I believe Your Demise is just getting started. Production-wise the album is flawless, every instrument coming in crystal clear and Ed's vocals perfectly fitting over the music. Lyrically the album is your standard hardcore record, but that isn't ever a bad thing. If this album doesn't catch your attention and make you move, then no band will ever be able to. Due out October 25th on Rise Records in the US, you can pre-order the album from MerchNow, and the Rise-Records webstore.
I give the album a 9/10 for being one of the best releases of the year, original, and being one of the only records i've heard this year that will make you move. Fucking support these dudes and pick it up.
