Warehouse 201 Phoenix, Its whats real.

So recently I had the pleasure of hitting up this amazing venue in Northern Phoenix called Warehouse 201. Located in this sweet looking industrial park, Warehouse 201 isn't what you expect from a venue. While most places these days cater to just money hungry promoters and giving kids a rough time for supporting music that isn't 80's metal, Warehouse does not. Promoter Mario Laudani actually cares, which is a surprisingly turn of events in the scene. Doing this solely for the kids, Warehouse 201 is probably one of the states start of the art music venues and best kept secrets thats slowly being spread around. The huge stage, huge floor space, and amazing sound and lights, this venue is on top of everything. They also house everything from Locals to touring bands, from acoustic to deathcore. If its music, chances are Warehouse will have it. Mario connects with the kids, most of them calling him dad, he really provides a safe environment to go to shows. Kids respect him and the venue, which is another amazing change in this ever popular kids vs venue/promoters fad. So if you need a place to play, or need any further convincing as to why your ass needs to be at a show, Check out this video.

The Warehouse 201 from Jesse Lobell on Vimeo.

Look for more of Pure Musical Fun at Warehouse 201 in the future, and definitely holla at Mario on Facebook and tell him you saw his place on Pure Musical Fun.

Mae says Goodnight & Goodbye to Mesa, Arizona.

On a lovely Tuesday evening, Virginia's own Mae entered Nile Theater for what would be the bands final performance in Arizona all ages venue. Prompted to be a solid hour and fifteen minute performance spanning the bands entire catalog the full crowd erupted into cheers when Dave and crew walked out on-stage. Opening with Evening Ep's Bloom the show started off as any Mae show should, Lots of energy and fun. The band played through crowd favorites such as "Summertime" "Suspension" "Sun" and many more off Everglow and Destination Beautiful. The band also played some of the amazing new songs from the Morning, Afternoon, and Evening Ep's including my personal favorite "I Just Needed You To Know". Out of my twelve times seeing Mae this has been one of the best. The band was full of energy and happiness My only complaint was the fact the band didn't play one single song off of Singularity. But the setlist for the band was still a great one. Along with all the bands smiles, every person in attendance was smiling, singing along, and enjoying what has been Mae. The whole show had an almost bitter sweet taste to it, as they played many rarities, it'd also be the last time for a very long time any fan would hear these songs live. With the stage drop illuminated by Stars and white christmas lights on all the mics and keyboard stands. The band finished out their set the crowd wanting more. A 4 song encore satisfied that need, the band walked offstage for the final time, Bidding a Goodnight & Goodbye to Mesa, Arizona and everyone in attendance.

Huge thanks for Nicholas Clermont for providing with all of our photos as always, and to you, the reader, for reading my terrible grammar and biased opinions.

Fearless Friends Tour makes some new friends in Mesa.

fearless friends

A full slew of quality bands from the Fearless Records roster rolled into town on Thursday November 18th in Mesa, Arizona at the World Famous Nile Theater. Opening the fully loaded bill to anxious crowd was The American Secrets. Playing a awesome blend on piano driven pop-rock the band who is FreeCreditScore.com's commercial band proved that they are way more than some band we sing the jingles from to have a good time.

Immediately following Texas's own Artist Vs Poet took the stage to screams from the whole crowd as frontman Tarcy Thomason kept the crowd moving playing hits off the bands latest Fearless release Favorite Fix everyone sung along without skipping the beat. The highlight of the bands set is when they ripped out a cover of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance from the new Punk Goes Pop cd from Fearless Records. The band closed out the set with crowd favorite Damn Rough Night.

Hitting the stage next was some amazing veterans of Pop-Rock Go Radio. While the band hasn't been around more than a couple of years frontman Jason Lancaster is the man behind all of Mayday Parade's good songs, and his new band Go Radio does not disappoint. Leading off with the bands latest single "Letters & Love Notes" which is hands down the catchiest song I heard all night. Not one person in the crowd could keep from bobbing around and singing along. Watching Jason with this new project and watching the amount of fun and energy Go Radio produces is just refreshing. Closing out their set with the ballad Goodnight Moon the crowd watched the band pour every ounce of heart and emotion they have into a song that pulls at your heart.

Detroit, Michigan's Every Avenue took the stage next and opened with the bands catchiest song they've ever released "Where Were You" Everyone once again was moving to a song thats impossible to not dance and sing to. Playing a good mix of the bands catalog from older hits like "Think Of You Later" to the bands newest singles off Picture Perfect. Every Avenue showed why they are here to stay, and here to entertain.

Denver, Colorado's own Breathe Carolina came out next playing amazing segues of dubstep and house trance between their songs. The band showed why they have earned the Direct Support title and the kids showed why they love Breathe Carolina. Dancing, singing, crowd surfing the sight is just amazing to watch. And Kyle and Dave were having just as much as the kids were singing hits like "Lovely" and "Hello Fascination" The band then took the party of their set to a whole new level when they threw in their cover of Jay Sean's Down. Kyle showed off his incredible vocal abilities by screaming the entire rapped verse by Lil' Wayne in the song. Closing out the set and dance party with the bands latest single I.D.G.A.F the kids partied themselves silly one last time before the nights headliners.

Mayday Parade took the stage next playing a set all fans would love to see, mixing songs off the bands Ep, and both full-length records the kids showed why the band is currently on top in the pop/rock music market singing along to every song and some kids even going as far to be in tears during the bands set. I personally can't say I was to impressed with the band but they definitely know how to not disappoint any of their fans. The highlight of the whole set was when former Mayday Parade vocalist Jason Lancaster came out to sing some verses in the bands single Miserable At Best, Giving the crowd a solid hour and 20 minute performance its safe to say everyone left happy. I highly recommend the tour for the openers as well as seeing The American Secrets set as its worth the whole ticket price alone.

Unfortunately PMF resident photography Nicholas Clermont wasn't able to attend the show due to some prior commitments.

Street Train shows Mesa how to get down with Americana.

ST1

5 dudes from New Jersey who go by the name of Steel Train steamed their way into Mesa, Arizona on October 30th. The Reason? To be direct support for Indie Rock super group Fun. But Steel Train was not just there to open, They were there to steal the show.

ST2

Steel Train mixes a unique blend of Indie Rock, Americana, and Pop to provide a sound that is truly their own. Led by vocalist/guitarist Jack Antonoff the band wen't immediately into cuts of the groups latest record deservingly titled Steel Train. The crowd wasted no time to in their start of dancing, singing along, and just having a great time. The band embraced the audiences participation when they played a song they made especially for the show Yo Gabba Gabba. The 5 piece from jersey played their asses off, making sure everyone was pleased. And most definitely was able to set the bar high for headliners Fun. Providing one of the most fun live shows i've seen and musically one of the best sounding sets I've seen I highly suggest going out and seeing these dudes in January with The Get Up Kids.

New Addition to the Pure Musical Fun Crew

Hello readers, I have recently had a very talented addition to the site, Everyone please welcome photographer Nicholas Clermont to the PMF family. He takes some amazing photos you'll be seeing in the next few days and for all shows in the future that PMF covers. Enjoy! And once again Welcome Nicholas.

The Wonder Years leave the crowd wanting more in Mesa,

The Wonder Years
Live In Mesa.
Wonder Years 2
(Vocalist Dan "Soupy" Campbell gets involved with the crowd)

On a semi cool Sunday evening in Mesa, Arizona. Philly PA's own The Wonder Years came to the Nile Theater as part of Four Year Strong's Tonight We Feel Alive tour. Proving to be one of the largest draws on this tour, The band came out on stage and started strong with Logan Circle.
Wonder Years 1
Immediately the crowd erupted into one huge support group, Within 10 seconds of the bands opening lines stage divers went diving, moshers went moshing, and everybody was singing along. The band sounding tighter than ever, raced through the 30 minute set packing it out with solid tracks of The Upsides like Melrose Diner, Washington Square Park, My Last Semester, and old favorites like Six Dudes From The Keystone State, and Your Not Salinger. Its rare when a band can take control of the crowd like The Wonder Years did and make every single person there forget about whats going on around them. Everyone picked each other up when they fell, in the crowd was just a feeling of hope and energy.
Wonder Years 3
The crowd never once stopped moving and the same can be said for Soupy and the gang in The Wonder Years. Positivity, Hope, and not being ignorant and diving feet first were constantly yelled to the crowd by Dan and the boys. The band knows how to keep everything transitioning live just like it sounds off the record, including I Was Scared And I'm Sorry off the re-release of the bands standout album The Upsides. Lets give the performance a quick breakdown.
Wonder Years 4
Energy 10/10
Crowd Participation 10/10
Stage Presence 10/10
Live Sound 10/10
Ability To Keep The Crowd Interested 10/10
Musicianship in a live setting 10/10

Looks like the boys can pull off everything in perfect fashion just like they do with The Upsides. go see these dudes!

Thanks for reading, and a huge thanks to Mike over at Earshot media for allowing us the chance to do this.

Dem Waffle Houze Boiz - Free Money 2: The Duece Review

DWB

These dudes hit me up and wanted a review, after seeing the name I was instantly stoked to do this, I'm not really a huge hip-hop fan but this record is actually rad, the guys voices aren't the stereotypical rapper voices, they actually have some personality. The beats are great and production is actually really rad. I highly suggest downloading this and blaring it while driving down the street, it's sure to get some attention and I do mean that in a great way. This is actually really entertaining to me because this dudes aren't hyping everything up like the shit on the radio, I honestly feel this dudes are doing something real. The dudes get massive props for having a kick ass song called "chicken & wafflez" as i'm from the south aha. all in all its a great release to kick back to and listen to something different. Breakdown

Vocals 9/10
Lyrics 9/10
Production 10/10
Beats 9/10
Energy 10/10

In all honesty for hip-hop this is a solid 10/10 for me, even if a song or two is a gimmick. Touring bands should have these guys as there anthem since were always at Waffle House.

Check the dudes out at http://www.myspace.com/demwafflehouzeboiz

Topshelf Records to Release Debut Album from Talons

Topshelf Records (Grown Ups, My Heart To Joy, Pianos Become The Teeth) is excited to announce they will be handling the vinyl release of the debut full-length from Talons (Hereford, Midlands, UK). Entitled Hollow Realm, the vinyl will see an official release on November 23rd via Topshelf. The release marks the label's first release from a UK band. British imprint Big Scary Monsters will be releasing the CD on November 15th.

Topshelf will launch pre-orders for the Hollow Realm vinyl in late October. The first pressing will be limited to 500 copies.

You can stream the first single, "Peter Pan", on the band's Myspace now!

Talons are an instrumental six-piece, who call the backwater town of Hereford their home. Forging the explosive energy of hardcore, the subtleties of post-rock and the complexities associated with math-rock, Talons possess a fascinating sense of urgency and drive, with a sound that both soothes and savages in equal measure. Comprised of eight brand new tracks, Hollow Realm was written as a single piece of music and combines all the elements we've come to love from Talons; the beautiful highs, the crushing lows and of course, the massive riffs.

The Wonder Years - Melrose Diner Music Video

Its hands down the video of the year/lifetime. Best ever, watch this shit now!

Bars Of Gold Lp Repress

Nothing gold can stay ... unless of course you're Bars Of Gold. In that case, your amazing new record gets a second pressing and a shiny new CD treatment, to boot. Hoorray for being awesome!

Of Gold, the debut LP from ex-members of Michigan legends Bear Vs Shark and instrumental noise outfit Wildcatting, gets a welcome repress and release from Friction Records today, October 12th.

Originally issued in late August and limited to 500 12-inches on translucent orange and translucent green vinyl, the second pressing of 1000 is evenly split between four colors: white, translucent light blue, translucent dark green and translucent purple.

Additionally, Of Gold is now available on compact disc. To pick up a copy of whichever format tickles your fancy (including digital) go here.

As the 50th release for Friction Records, Of Gold finds the Detroit quintet exploring wonderfully uncharted territories and embracing elements of soul, garage rock and Americana. Of course, the influence of vocalist Marc Paffi and drummer Brandon Moss' former outfit Bear Vs Shark can be felt throughout these eight amazing tracks. Simultaneously reckless and creative, Bars Of Gold wraps everything in ragged, pop-tinged bursts of sonic goodness. You won't just hear these songs in your head - you'll feel them in the pit of your stomach as the chaotic rumble gives way to a creaky banjo or whirling synths. These are gritty rock anthems for adults: a welcome, rollicking respite from juvenile themes and uninspired songwriting.

Currently Bars Of Gold is streaming three songs from the album on its myspace page, including "The Hustle," which you can also download here (free mp3).

- An unhinged rock record, held loosely together with little emotional or instrumental restraint. 4/5 - Alternative Press
- Of Gold is definitely a force with a singular, yet scattered, vision, driven by big confidence and feverous dynamics. - Exclaim
- Bars of Gold glints and glimmers with its curiously absorbing amalgam of folk, rock, and post-hardcore. - Radio Free Chicago
- 8 new jams to satiate the BvS faithful ... the rock equivalent of babies and puppies laughing together underneath a double rainbow. - Punknews
- If Fugazi had David Yow as a front man, but played like they lived off a steady diet of funk and MC5 they'd sound a lot like this. Wow. - Metro Times
- Melodic and raspy ( think MC5 sung by a caffeinated Tom Waits ) with complex, often jarring instrumentation, abrupt breaks and tons of fiery energy. - One Thirty BPM

The Kitchen Sink Fiasco - Where The Flowers Grow EP Review

TKSF Album

North Carolina is my old home state. Known for producing some of the raddest bands ever, Greensboro, NC's Kitchen Sink Fiasco is no exception. Filled with some of the catchiest pop melodies, and some almost jazzy like song structure, the bands new ep entitled "Where The Flowers Grow" is fersure to be one of the top listens of the year. This band is everything Jonas Sees In Color isn't, there actually good. Vocalist Joe Davis has one of the most unique voices that works so perfectly for the style of music this band is going for. The only problem with this ep is the fact that it is 3 songs long. Its more of a sampler to show what the band will be offering on a full length record that i'm sure will be a 10/10.

So heres the breakdown.
Lyrics 8/10
Vocals 8/10
Lasting Value 6/10 because its so short
Energy 7/10
Production 7/10

Junior Battles has a new video and tour!

In an attempt to infringe on more copyrights and spend less money in two and a half minutes than any other band has dared in the past, Canadian punk quartet Junior Battles has unveiled the video for "Basements."

Created by members of the the band in one coffee-fueled night of stealing and editing, the video not only spits in the face of trademark law, but also the memory of nearly every movie from my childhood. To view the zero budget greatness, go here.

"Basements" is the first single from the Toronto outfit's Self-Titled 7", which was released earlier this year on Square Up Records. Copies of the vinyl are still available from the label. The 4-song effort can also be downloaded for free from our friends at If You Make It.

Beginning next week, Junior Battles will embark on a two week tour of the U.S. with Houston's O Pioneers!!!. The bands toured together earlier this year and recently shared a Split 7" on Kiss Of Death Records.

On a semi-related note, last week an apparently starved-for-content AV Club featured O Pioneers!!! in an article titled "Viva Hate: 15 anti-Morrissey songs." The accompanying video spotlights a live performance of the song by front man Eric Solomon with 3/4 of Junior Battles as his backing band.

Heinali & Matt Fineey - Lemonade EP review

Lemonade EP

Matt Finney shot me an e-mail over about two weeks ago asking me to hook his band up with a review. Upon hearing it was himself and composer Heinali, a duo based in two different parts of world, mixing spoken word poetry with industrial style music I couldn’t resist. The duo’s latest effort entitled Lemonade mixes a lot of elements of industrial, electronic, and sounds you’d hear in Terminator or any other apocalypse movie.

This album to me has been one of my absolute favorites to listen to, Matt’s voice can be both soothing and twisted, the poetry is dark, but tells a story. It’s everything you could want lyrically in an album. Combined with composer Heinali’s expert composing skills you have a soundtrack any movie could only dream of. Mixed with its dramatic dark moments and some incredible uplifting areas; this truly is a record that can be described as epic. I can’t really say much more about this record other than the fact it is jaw dropping and if you don’t pick it up, you are truly missing out. Everything production wise sounds perfect and clear.

Here is the breakdown,
Lyrics 8/10
Musicianship 10/10

Production 10/10
Lasting Value 8/10

I give this record a solid 8/10 so please go check these guys out, you can download their record as a pay what you want deal off of bandcamp, so throw them a buck or two and get some amazing music.

The Wonder Years - The Upsides Album Review

TWY Album

I'm Not Sad Anymore, that is phrase that has held true to thousands of kids worldwide who have been inspired by Philly realist pop-punk band The Wonder Years. Having been a D.I.Y staple and writing songs that hit home with anyone, the band really hit home when they released 2010's album of the year "The Upsides"

From the opening verse of "I'm not sad anymore" in opening track My Last Semester the band shows that they have a lot to be happy about, and we should to. Centered around stories from tours, getting out of Philly, to songs about people being homophobic assholes, and being stuck in the middle of nowhere. The Upsides hands down wins album of the year lyrically. The songs are insanely catchy and will get stuck in your head faster than some shitty R&B gimmick song.

Hope and looking on the brightside is what "The Upsides" is all about, but even then it also has its dark sides, songs about remembrance, and broken hearts. But this is no pussy pop-punk record. This record is for those who need some Hope in their lives, The Wonder Years have become a band that people believe in, and "The Upsides" has become the record that saves lives.

Now as of recently the band had signed a record deal with Hopeless Record's and re-released "The Upsides" with four brand new songs. The first song of four called "I was scared and I'm sorry" is about dealing with a break-up. It is one of the hardest hitting songs on the album. The band also did a campfire version of Dynamite Shovel which had all the guys clapping and singing along. It really turned an already fun song into a amazing singalong. Logan Circle: A New Hope gives Logan Circle a whole new take and just shows some of the pure emotion in Soupy's voice. Closing track We Won't Bury You is one of the hardest hitting home songs around, showing the bands dealing with the loss of a friend.

This is the album of the year, hands down, nothing has came close to this record, I highly suggest picking it up and seeing them out on the Tonight We Feel Alive Tour.

Thanks for reading. And huge thanks to Mike over at Earshot for granting PMF the honor of reviewing this album.

Carpenter's US/Canada tour begins today.

Beginning today, Vancouver, BC's Carpenter will embark on a six-week tour through Canada and the United States in support of its newest record, Sea To Sky.

The quartet's sophomore full-length was released digitally and on CD in Canada last week (09/21) by Goldstock Records, a new imprint created by Carpenter front man Daniel Sioui and Stu McKillop (Daggermouth, In Bear Country). To grab a copy, go here or you can pick one up from the band on tour.

Carpenter recently joined the esteemed roster of Gainesville punk label Paper + Plastick, which will be releasing the album digitally and on 12" vinyl. The LP will be officially out on October 26th (pre-orders up soon!) while digital should be available at iTunes and other online retailers within the next couple of weeks.

You can stream the first two tracks on Sea To Sky, "Mean Things" and "Common Law," here.

Formed in 2005 from the ashes of some of Vancouver's biggest post-punk bands (All State Champion, By A Thread, Daggermouth), Carpenter's rock n roll assault sprung from singer Daniel Sioui's obsession with the 1982 John Cougar classic American Fool. Like Mellencamp, Sioui took aim at writing material that was lasting, catchy and heartfelt whilst retaining the intensity and DIY ethics of the members' punk and hardcore roots.

As the follow-up to the outfit's acclaimed debut, Law Of The Land, Sea To Sky was recorded with engineer Stu McKillop at Rain City Recorders (Broadway Calls, Living with Lions) and features 10 tracks that embrace its musical roots. Hints of 90s emo and post punk seep into the band's established rock n roll sound. It's an evolution that keeps its members inspired to forge ahead and work tirelessly to spread the word of Carpenter.

As always, if you'd like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

Museum Mouth's discography free right now!

Southport, NC's MUSEUM MOUTH are excited to announce they have put their young discography up for free download at the band's Bandcamp page. Carolina's finest noisy pop/punk trio are still supporting their first full-length release, entitled Tears In My Beer, which was self-released by the band earlier this year.

You can grab physical copies of Tears In My Beer and the band's debut EP, I Am The Idiot Of The Jungle, for ridiculously cheap prices directly from their Store. Or you can take the easy way out and do the download. They won't judge you either way.

The band continues to record new material at a rapid pace for upcoming vinyl releases and compilations. The new songs continue the evolution between pop/punk and indie/noise that Museum Mouth hinted at so gracefully on Tears In My Beer.

Youth always deals in the extremes and Museum Mouth’s stream of consciousness relays that moody energy perfectly. At one moment we long for youth and its comforting simplicity and the next we thank god we never have to endure that blinding awkwardness ever again. Therein lays the appeal of Museum Mouth’s Tears In My Beer. The album title as well as the band’s refreshing brand of fuzzed out indie punk scream out with youthful abandon!

Museum Mouth occupies that thin line where indie rock and pop/punk meet. Dual male/female vocals might echo pop/punk of the past but the band sets itself apart by incorporating more noisy tendencies. The raw recording style adds to the separation but remains completely flattering to the band’s ramshackle sound. With lyrics like “when the going gets tough, I’m gonna go to the beach” how can you not find the band’s spirit intoxicating? Yet there is a mature depth in the band’s living-in-the-moment style that only adds to the attraction. On Tears In My Beer, Museum Mouth makes a beautiful noise that echoes youth in all its subdued glory, pain and confusion.

Castevet - The Echo & The Light Review

Castevet Album

Castevet is unlike any band I've ever heard before. Combining raspy vocals, dreamy sounds, heavy distorted yet beautifully crisp guitar, the band paints pictures with their latest full length record "The Echo & The Light"

The Chicago, IL based quartet's latest release is nothing short of amazing. Nick's passionate vocals combined with pure musicianship make for a record you'll play over and over again. I don't really know how to describe this band other than where 90's emo left off. Upbeat yet passionate the nine track full length record clocking in at just under thirty minutes is pure amazingness. The album doesn't have a weak point at all, and has singalongs that will have everyone on each others shoulders. "hiccups" is my personal favorite on the album where the band showcases their upbeat side, singalongs, and expect musicianship at crafting beautiful slow clean parts. The only thing I dislike about this record is that it ends. It has some really aw production which showcases the bands D.I.Y spirit, and talent flows within this bands release. With powerful tracks like "Narrow Hallways" and one of the most passionate album closers I've heard. "The Echo & The Light" is hands down a contender for album of the year. If you loved The Gaslight Anthems 59' sound, or Piano's Become The Teeth's Old Pride. then you'll love this album musically. So heres the breakdown,

Lyrics 10/10
Musicianship 10/10
Vocals 10/10
Production 9/10
Lasting Value 10/10
Artwork 9/10
Energy 8/10

I give this record a 10/10 for being hands down the best record i've reviewed so far. Please go support these dudes and the label releasing this amazing album on vinyl Tiny Engines.

Frontier(s) - The Plains EP Review

Photobucket

Look up Indie-Rock in a dictionary, what you should find is a picture of Chris, Matt, Bryan, and Eagle. Otherwise known as Frontier(s). There debut EP a two song beast released on No Sleep Records will go down in history as one of Indie-Rock's staple releases.

With former Elliot vocalist Chris Higdon's voice at the wheel, "The Plains EP" makes a lasting impression immediately with some of the most unique vocals you'll ever hear. Frontier(s), which could easily be the next great Arena Rock band of out time hits hard with opening single "The Plains", Chris Higdon's one of kind voice, matched with Eagle Barbers sharp drumming skills power the song through five minutes of solid indie-rock gold. With a slight hint of Foo Fighters mainstream kids will be flocking to get this band radio play, and they deserve every bit of it. Even at only two songs and ten minutes in length, Frontier(s) "The Plains" EP is sure to be one of the favorites among indie-rock and alternative-punk fans alike. So heres the breakdown,

Lyrics 9/10
Musicianship 10/10

The Saddest Landscape joins Panic Records

THE SADDEST LANDSCAPE is proud to announce that it has joined forces with Panic Records (Set Your Goals, Make Do And Mend, Man Overboard, Hostage Calm) for its first full-length release in seven years, You Will Not Survive.

Originally released by the band and scheduled to come out today, the first pressing of the highly anticipated album has already sold out. Not to worry though - Panic has pre-orders for the second press of LP and CD up now. All orders come with an instant download of You Will Not Survive, and there is a limited collector pack with all color variants of the LP, as well as a live 7" with limited quantities left. The album will also be hitting your favorite digital retailer this week.

You can stream You Will Not Survive on Absolute Punk and check out a brand new review for the album at the site as well.

Haunting and massive in its scope, The Saddest Landscape’s You Will Not Survive echoes a maelstrom of emotions while retaining a staggering poise and precision. Rarely does a record push you so close to the edge only to save you at its dying breath. The Saddest Landscape provides cathartic therapy for desperate and dark matters of the heart. With passionate vocals and pummeling, powerful musical landscapes the band never relents nor wavers as it drags you through its own personal hell.

It is the fear of the journey that eventually makes us stronger and You Will Not Survive is that voyage. Time away has only enhanced The Saddest Landscape’s aggressive vitriol. The band has redefined expectations firmly reestablishing itself in a scene that desperately needs it. You Will Not Survive further entrenches The Saddest Landscape as an uncompromising pioneer in the ever-evolving screamo genre.

Divided By Friday - Divided By Friday EP Review

BDF Promo

Divided By Friday is an unsigned pop-punk band from Fayetteville, NC. They've had 3 releases in the short 3 years the bands been around. Every single one has been 10/10 material. The latest self-titled release is no exception.

Starting out strong with new single and whats sure to get this band signed on the spot "Disappoint: Sunrise". The strongest single the bands released to date sets the mood for the whole EP. Jose's vocals are one of the main draws to this band, every release hes put everything he has on the line. And the self titled release is no exception. Dueling vocal work, and ultra crisp production make this group of North Carolina teens sound like there one of the biggest bands out there today, And they've yet to grace the catalog of a label. I highly suggest picking up this release. Every track on this EP is a stand out, and memorable, it'll be one of your most played releases of the year I guarantee it. So heres the breakdown.

Vocals 10/10
Lyrics 8/10
Musicianship 8/10
Production 9/10
Lasting Value 7/10
Artwork 5/10
Originality 9/10
Energy 8/10

I give the EP a 9/10 as it is one of the strongest releases I've heard from such a new band. Pick up the latest self-titled release from i-tunes today.

Such Gold - Pedestals EP Review

Such Gold Album

Rochester, NY pop-punk band Such Gold has been a driving force in the D.I.Y. pop-punk/hardcore scene for the last year and half. Their last EP "Stand Tall" was one of the most received and best pop-punk records of last year hands down. The new EP, "Pedestals" is nothing short of amazing either.

Such Gold have filled the new EP "Pedestals" with some of the best pop-punk tracks of the year. Passion filled, and positive message the bands 6 song EP gets off to quick and amazing start with the lead off track "Cut Rides" a intro shortly over a minute that sets the perfect direction for the EP. Fast, Passionate, and catchy as fuck. You couldn't ask for a better record. Production is amazing, and the lyrics aren't washed up like every other pop-punk act out there today. This is hands down gonna be one of the albums of the year.

"Pedestals" is a record filled with singalongs that are gonna be stuck in your head. Much like Set Your Goals "Reset" EP this is gonna make this band huge. So lets do a breakdown.

Lyrics 8/10
Musicianship 10/10
Lasting Value 8/10
Originality 7/10
Artwork 7/10
Energy 10/10
Production 8/10

Its hard to really pick out a stand out track because they all stand out. "So Close" is however one of the best songs on the whole album. So give it a the whole EP for listen.

Your Demise - The Kids We Used To Be Album Review

Photobucket

Hailing from the U.K. is a band that doesn't need any introduction. Heavy as fuck hardcore outfit Your Demise are set to release a new record that's surely gonna be a contender for heavy album of the year. The Brighton, U.K. based 5 piece has been known for solid albums, and an even more solid performances to back it up. 2009's "Ignorance Never Dies" got praised as one of the best hardcore albums of the year. And with 2010 brings Your Demise bigger tours, a new vocalist, and a new album. Did "The Kids We Used To Be" live up to the hype? We here at Pure Musical Fun sure think so.

The album clocking in at a solid 38 minutes is filled with 2 steps, breakdowns, and mosh parts that are sure to keep all the hardcore dancers happy. And how about new vocalist Ed McRae, what does he bring to the plate? For one a heavier rawer vocal style that truly makes the album. He also has some clean vocals that are just a lovely added touch that is sure to throw you off. From the heavy gang calling intro of "MMX" to the chorus filled "Life Of Luxury", and my personal favorite "The Kids We Used To Be" this is sure to be hardcore album of the year. Its got enough familiarity of the bands previous works with enough new changes to keep you all interested. The album lasts with you, and you'll want to play it over and over again. "The Kids We Used To Be" is no sophomore slump in any way. I believe Your Demise is just getting started. Production-wise the album is flawless, every instrument coming in crystal clear and Ed's vocals perfectly fitting over the music. Lyrically the album is your standard hardcore record, but that isn't ever a bad thing. If this album doesn't catch your attention and make you move, then no band will ever be able to. Due out October 25th on Rise Records in the US, you can pre-order the album from MerchNow, and the Rise-Records webstore.

I give the album a 9/10 for being one of the best releases of the year, original, and being one of the only records i've heard this year that will make you move. Fucking support these dudes and pick it up.

You, Me, And Everyone We Know - Some Things Don't Wash Out Album Review

YMAEWK Cover

Hey guys welcome to the new site. We're getting to start things off in a big way here with a review of one of the most anticipated records of the year. Some Things Don't Wash Out by You, Me, And Everyone We Know. Fronted by Ben Leibsch, the Baltimore based 6 piece write pop music that isn't shit. The bands been known to put out solid pop records that will have you smiling and singing along all day long. The latest release, dropping on Doghouse Records on October 12th is no exception.

The album kicks off with "Shock And Awe" that has a total circus feel to it, add in Ben's unique vocals, multiple instruments, and the use of the word fuck and you have the next PAT!D everyone. Only YMAEWK won't suck. My personal favorites on the album are "I'm Losing Weight For You" "James Brown Is Dead" "The Puzzle" and the new version of "Livin' Th' Dream". The albums first single "Some Things Don't Wash Out" is also hands down one of the best tracks and best pop songs of the year in my opinion.

Musically YMAEWK sound a lot like Panic At The Disco, Forgive Durden, and Say Anything on this album. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Every track has its stand outs and no two sound the same. This record is sure to be one of the top records of the year hands down. I highly suggest picking it up and seeing the guys on their current headlining tour.

8/10 for You Me And Everyone We Know's "Some Things You Can't Wash Out"
Pick up the record in stores on October 12th or pre-order from Smartpunk.com. Either way just support this amazing band.
